Working with a veteran actress like Jean Smart means receiving all sorts of valuable advice.
But as Hacks costar Hannah Einbinder revealed at the 2024 Emmys, that advice doesn’t always necessarily pertain to onscreen work. Jean comes with important culinary safety guidance, too.
“Oh, my God, she tells me random, hilarious things,” Hannah told Live from E! cohost Heather McMahan. “She once told me not to stand in front of blenders, because, while it was going, she's like, ‘Honey, you don't want the like you or your internal organs to be in front of the blender motor. It's just not good.’”
She continued, “And I was like, ‘Yeah, I'm not going to look that up and going to not do that anymore.’”
The 29-year-old—who donned custom Louis Vuitton for the evening—also reflected on her work in the most recent season of the HBO series, which saw the normally comedic actress take on some dramatic moments. But as Hannah told Heather, she always knew was capable of drama.
“I always knew I felt an immense well of sadness,” she joked. “But whether or not I could conjure that on command—yes, I did surprise myself. I was pleasantly surprised.”
Heading into the evening, Hannah is nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category for Hacks for a third time, as is Jean, who won in the category in 2021 and 2022.
Upon receiving her third nomination, Hannah reflected on the work she and the entire Hacks crew put into the show.
“Making Hacks with my loved ones is the most fulfilling creative experience of my life," Hannah said in a statement to E! News. "I am deeply honored to share this nomination with every single cast and crew member who makes our show what it is! I am so humbled to be nominated alongside such powerful artists who I admire—I’m overflowing with gratitude and love!”
Or as Jean summed on Instagram following the nominations, "I couldn’t be happier and I am so incredibly proud of us!"
